In two-point teach mode, two target distances are set to define the near and far detection limits (window mode). In one-point mode, a single threshold is set. The Telemecanique XUB5BNXNL2 incorporates automatic temperature compensation for the speed of sound variation with ambient temperature. This internal compensation ensures that the switching point and measured distance remain accurate across the full operating temperature range of -25°C to +70°C without requiring manual recalibration.

The Telemecanique XUB5BNXNL2 is an ultrasonic proximity/distance sensor. It emits high-frequency sound pulses (typically 100–400 kHz) from a piezoelectric transducer and measures the time-of-flight of the echo reflected from the target. This allows detection of objects regardless of colour, transparency, or surface texture, unlike optical sensors.

The output type of the XUB5BNXNL2 depends on the part number suffix. 'APA' and 'APX' denote PNP discrete switching outputs; 'ANX' and 'ANB' denote NPN discrete switching outputs. Selected variants also offer a 0–10V or 4–20mA analogue output for continuous distance measurement. Confirm the required output type with your PLC specification before ordering from Electrihub.

The Telemecanique XUB5BNXNL2 is highly immune to ambient light, dust, and most airborne particles, making it more robust than photoelectric sensors in dusty or dirty environments.
